I love what I do!

February 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Stephen Racite, pastor of Cornwall Baptist Church, Cornwall NY, gave me an article about a lady who opened a store in his town selling items related to witchcraft and magic. As I read the article, I was amazed at her openness to admit that she is a practising witch, or as she calls it, ” a Third degree priestess.” This title is compared to being the “pope.” What really got me was the fact that in order to open up shop, she had to sell her sports car to have enough money. The reason she said that she was so willing to do this was, ” I love what I do.” How many of us as Christians who have the truth would be willing to do the same because we ” love what we do, ” or do we gripe when the simplest of things are asks of us?

loving and giving

February 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

” You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.”                          —-Amy Carmichael

What a powerful statement about loving and giving. Amy Carmichael knew much of these two attributes. On March 6, 1901, this Irish missionary took in her first young girl who had been solicited as a prostitute in the Hindu temple. This tortured and abused child was searching for refuge, and she found it with Amy Carmichael.

Carmichael continued to serve Christ by giving and loving for 56 years in Dohnavur, India. She dedicated her life to rescue children from the temple prostitution service. By the end of her life, she had saved over 1,000 young people from a life of pain and despair.

Not only did she minister to these young children, she also wrote and published 35 books. Because of her dedication, her influence is still among us today.

Is your life a ” selfless endeavor, ” or  is it a ” selfish adventure ? ” Amy Carmichael knew that serving God would cost her much enjoyment, but eternity will show what her investment reaped. Many young girls who were sold into slavery became free from their bonds by the love of Christ.  ( Article from B.C.W.E. )

We need to pray that we will live a selfless life , so that people who are far from God, can experience his love through us.

Neighbor

Hi! My name is William Perdido, and I am a teacher in the local public high school. I enjoy teaching biology to all of the students. The sciences have always interested me since I was a young boy. Just to think of how our planet evolved from solar gases and microorganisms, it just stirs my soul!

Sometimes I have a student who does not agree with me concerning the origin of man, but most of my students agree with the laws of evolution. You know, I feel so content having such a mighty impact on hundreds of teenagers. I love educating.

My wife and I enjoy our family. I left my first wife when I met Susan; she completes me! I have a daughter, Rhonda, who is studying anthropology at the local university. She is a beautiful young lady, but I sometimes worry about her drinking habits. My son, Neil, is the branch manager of a local bank in town. He is a homosexual; but I told him that as long as he is happy, Susan and I are happy.

I have never really thought too much about religion. To be honest, I do not know a whole lot about it. My science professor in the university lectured on topics like where we came from, how the earth formed, and how religion can corrupt. Who needs religion? Science explains everything.

Though, I do sometimes feel empty, like there is something more out there, something that could ” complete “me even further. Some people hike to the top of mountains to discuss ” life ” with friends and strangers, and others lie in the aisle of a church and talk jibber-jabber.

Sometimes I stare at the sky and think about a higher being, but who is He? I wonder if there is anyone who could tell me about ” Him. ” Who could possibly tell me of Him? Is it possible for a “god” to make me feel complete and give meaning to my life? I wonder…..

By the way, I am your next door neighbor. ( article from B.C.W.E. )

I wonder how many people in Middletown are doing the same, just wondering………

If you are one of those people please let us know www.hope.fm   845-467-1235

hell!

February 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

“Some wish to live within  the sound of a church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard from hell!”             —C.T. Studd

In February of 1885, one unique young man boarded a vessel bound for the mission field of China. He left his family, friends, and a life of comfort and wealth; all so that he could tell Chinese people of Jesus Christ.

Charles Thomas Studd’s father was a rich business man; therefore, Charles grew up with many luxuries, but he counted it all for loss. He believed that the millions of people that would go to hell during his lifetime were worth more than the wealth he could enjoy in this world.

It was his love for the people that drove him on. By the time of his death, he had begun ministries in China, India, and and in the heart of Africa. This man forsook his wealth to seek out lost souls for Jesus Christ.

Are you willing to forsake all to win lost souls for Christ? C.T. Studd did just that. He gave up more financially than most of us have ever acquired. Have you given Christ control of your finances, of your life? The world needs more Christians who are willing to share the Gospel with the untold.—–Article from B.C.W.E.

We need to pray that God will give us boldness to rescue those who are closest to hell.

Phuong’s Destiny

February 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The odor of fish wafted throughout the city of Can Tho. The sun slowly rose above the trees, as light shined through the mist of the Mekong Delta. A fisherman gathered his net and climbed into his boat, beginning his day as normal. To his left, a small, thin boy stood by the water, watching as he passed.

Phuong watched as the fisherman shoved off the shore, and began to paddle out into the ocean. Phuong’s stomach ached. He had slept somewhat comfortably during the night after finding an old, abandoned shad near the water front; but there was never a night that he truly slept well. He was only 14, but lucky. Most street kids did not live past the age of ten.

Phuong wandered back into the old, dark shed, longing for a future that would never come. Movement in the corner broke his thoughts as the sunlight revealed a rat feeding on some crumbs. He quietly walked up behind the rat, and with one fast swoop grabbed the rat and silenced it’s cries with a blow to it’s head. With his hunger succumbed, life seemed easier, but the truth is that his life had never been easy.

Life is not easy for a Vietnamese street kid. There is always the danger of being murdered by an angry mob, being caught stealing food, or being sold into slavery. Going without food is a regular occurrence, and finding shelter is just as hard. These children have no future, no family, and no way out. They were not raised with the privilege of the Message of Christ.

Phuong means ” destiny.” Though he does not know who named him, he does think about his future, and what will happen to him. Will he live long enough to see tomorrow? Is there anybody in the world who could love street trash like him?—Article from B.C.W.E.

More Snow!

February 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well it is snowing once again here in Middletown. There is about 6″ right now, and they are calling for more. The kids are enjoying it, they have seen more snow in two weeks here, than they have seen in all their lives. I must say that the snow here is different. It is more of a powder than slush and ice like we are used to in Georgia, so it makes for more fun. All I have to say is, “ man it is cold.” The high today is 29.

Crazy about serving Jesus!

February 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

” He is no fool who will give what he cannot keep, to gain that which he cannot lose.” — Jim Elliot

In January of 1956, Jim Elliot and four companions landed on a beach of the Curaray River in eastern Ecuador. They had many friendly contacts with the fierce tribe that had previously killed several Shell Oil company employees.

Two days later, on January 8, 1956, all five men were speared and hacked to death by warriors from the Auca tribe. Life magazine featured a ten-page article on their mission and death.

Perhaps you are thinking that missions is just for crazy Christian radicals who are obsessed with living in a grass hut and eating bugs. Jim Elliot was indeed “crazy,” but only about one thing: serving Jesus Christ. Jim had dedicated his life to see that the unreached people groups of Ecuador could hear the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.   ( article from B.C.W.E.)

This is what kind of people we are looking for , to help start Hope Baptist Church  Middletown, NY.  People who are crazy about serving Jesus and have a heart for those who are without Christ. If you are one of those kind of people,  give me a call and let me know.  845-467-1235 or wayne@hope.fm

God Is Love

February 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ten men, one by one, stood before the large group of college students. Three of these men were the sons of missionaries whose works were located in China, India, and Persia. The seven other men were of different nationalities: Armenian, Japanese, Siamese, German, Dane, Norwegian, and American Indian.

All ten men gave a three minute plea for people to go tell the Gospel of Jesus Christ to their specific people group and the world. Every plea was ended with these words in their own language, “God is Love.”

The impact of the testimonies, spoken to the 251 students gathered on Mt. Hermon, forever changed missions all around the world.

Dutch  =  De god is liefde

French  =  Dieu est amour

German  =  Gott ist Liebe

Portuguese  =  Deus e amor

Spanish  =  Dio es amor

We all say that “God is Love” but how many of us put that love into action? If we believe this wonderful truth, then would it not seem ludicrous if we did not practice it. God’s love sent Jesus to earth, God’s love sent Jesus to a cross, and God’s love proclaims to us to send Jesus to the entire world. It is time that we stop basking in the love of God and start proclaiming it. Where do you stand?
